It was twenty years ago today

Okay, not quite 20, but 16 years ago that Apple Inc. and the Beatles’ old record label, Apple Corps, entered into an agreement regarding the two companies’ use of Apple-related trademarks. Evidently, it didn’t work so good.

Now the two clusters of opposing millionaires, billiionaires and their estates have settled the matter. “The new settlement replaces the companies’ 1991 agreement, and gives Apple Inc. ownership of all the trademarks related to ‘Apple.’ In addition, Apple Inc. will license certain of those trademarks back to Apple Corps for their continued use.” (Kippa tip to Peter Friedman.)

Apparently the companies were able to work out the core issues. The new agreement will naturally bear fruit for all concerned. Shoot me now.
